Hi guys, I am having an issue trying to replace my very old prop with a new one. I ordered 2 props and both are rubbing the outside portion of the hub. The hub has rings that look like threads. Should I just file those down?
Two things.
First Those rings are a seal of sorts. Should never be a need to file them down.
What is the manufacturer of the propeller you ordered? I have never seen this with an OEM replacement in this family of engines. Tons of good used props available. Anything that has the right pitch from an 18hp through the older 25hp all have the pin drive you are looking for.
Second. The hub in a new prop very often is not installed absolutely true in the prop hub bore. By running the hub usually self-centers.
Thank you for the reply.I purchased a Quicksilver and a Solas. The inner portion that is scratched seems to increase in diameter as it goes down. The OE seems to be a straight cylinder if that makes any sense. Thanks
It makes sense. Bad mold, bored off center, hub installed incorrectly, whatever. That prop needs to be returned. Get a good used prop from a Johnson or Evinrude and go on with life!
