20150705_125555.jpgHello everyone. I acquired this pretty little aluminum boat from my brothers in law who had good intentions of fixing it up, but never did.

I know almost zero about boats so please bear with me. I like to fish, even though I'm terrible at it, so I wanted to turn this boat into a fishing machine! I have seen some awesome projects on here and other places using similar boats. I am going to build a floor, casting deck and another casting deck on the back of the boat, all with lots of storage.

I figured I would start with identifying the boat so that I know the capacity and load rating for the boat. I have done a fair amount of research and I still can't figure out any info on my boat. I was hoping someone here could help me out!

Thanks in advance. I'll be sure to post pictures along the way of my progress and am open to advice along the way.

If you could just break out your tape measure and give some
measurements, OAL, beam, bottom, transom height, etc etc etc.
I tweaked your photo a little bit so we can see it better.
You probably have a mid-50s to mid 60s boat.

The more information you can provide, helps us help you.

.

Thank you for fixing my picture, Johnny! I took some measurements.

OAL: 14'
Beam: 58"
Transom hieght: 14"

I also found a number stamped between the beam and bow on the starboard side. B13500.

I will continue to research and dig up as much info as possible.

Thanks

Andy, please update your profile and add what state you are in.

here is my 1959 14' Crestliner.
The only difference that I see is the bow cover and steering set up.
Mine has the full cover to provide the remote steering.
yours is set up for tiller steer.
I have a 25hp Johnson which pushes that boat around quite well.

Should you want to go to the remote steering, it is quite easy, but,
there are certain things that must be done to do it safely.

I thought I did update my profile! I'll work on a good photo later.

That does have a strong resemblance to my boat. I was on retrocrestliner.Com last night looking through brochures from the fifties, and I'm pretty sure I have a commodore 14'. The only measurement that didn't match that description in the brochure was the depth of the bow. Perhaps I'm not measuring it correctly.

commodore looks right to me. GL with the build, I love my 14 Crestliner.

It has been a while since I last posted. I don't get to work on my boat as much as I'd like. So I do what I can here and there.

I started by removing all the old hardware and transom. There was a shelf or seat of some sort built into the bow. The PO installed it with a mix of rivets and self tappers. The foam inside was NASTY! I ripped all of that out also. I filled the holes with rivets and 5200. I removed the original bow cover.

Johnny, I think my boat is the same model as yours. It has a bracket that was evidently used for the motor controls and my bow cover had been modified. It appears the original covered all the way up to the motor control bracket.

Anyways, I did a little work to the trailer. I replaced the wood sides with some decking material and added a winch. I need spacers for both wheels because right now the tires rub on the wheel wells. The tongue is bent and I plan on cutting it off and welding on new tube steel. I plan to paint the trailer black and add a jack.

I just purchased a cheap trolling motor and some oars. I really want to get this on the water next weekend before the weather turns on me. In order to use the trolling motor, I had to build a place to mount it. Sometime this week I will pick up some gray marine carpet and carpet it. (I assume gray would stay the coolest on a hot sunny day, please let me know if I'm wrong.)

The last thing I need to do to get it on water is install the new transom. I plan on using stainless hardware and 5200 to seal it up.

That is all for now. Let me know if I'm screwing something up royally or forgetting something altogether! Thanks!

About the tire rub.
It looks like someone put much larger wheels and tires on the trailer. While this is nice for going down the road it can make it harder to launch and retrieve the boat. The trailer is so much higher you will have to back farther into the water to get the boat off and on. It also means your tow vehicle will have to be in the water. When you lengthen the tongue you could make it several feet longer which could help some and longer trailers are easier to back up and then put smaller tires on.

Ah, that makes sense. I look at all these other trailers and some have tiny tires. I'll try it the way it is and see how much of a pain it is during launch and retrieval. If it is an issue, I'll try getting smaller wheels and tires.
