I'm a new angler, and I want a fish finder. The misses ok'd $400 for my lil FF. I found this https://tinyurl.com/ovuwof6 Should I ? or is there something better? 17' Bass Tracker tx17. I'll be doing mostly bass fishing in the lakes and rivers around hattiesburg, MS

In that price range you should be able to find a Humminbird 598 which will give you side imaging.

Where about can I find the 598 for that price??

The Lowrance had down scan per the description, so would down scan or side scan be more beneficial to you. No gps on the Lowrance, but you don't say if that is desired.

I have no idea. i've been told bass fishers like side scan and to look at the HB 598

Where are you planning to put the transducer? I was told by a member on here that the SI will be affected by the TM, cuz of it turning. Just a note. Humminbird.com has a 678c HD DI for 399.99 which you could find somewhere cheaper I'm sure. I couldn't find an SI for around $400. Good luck in ya search.

598 would be 2nd hand to get it for $400 - I saw a few on craigslist at the point I found my 798 - actually - I was responding to an ad for a 598 and the guy had a 798 he was looking to sell too...

Cabelas was clearing them out for $565, but I think they're sold out - Amazon is probably your best bet, but it will be hit or miss as places clear out their old stock to make way for the new 600 series units.

Here's one I just posted. Not sure if it has everything you want, but it's a great deal IMHO.

A friend of mine won it before Christmas and doesn't even have a boat to put it on. Brand new in the box!

They are closing out some of the "birds" right now. I just picked up a 898 hd si for 799

You can get a new 598 straight from humminbird for $599 https://www.humminbird.com/Products/598ci-HD-SI-Combo/

You'll probably find a retailer that will do better online.

Ended up getting the one I linked. Good news is it's installed and looks great. bad news is I need a new stator, but it'l be here tomorrow, then I get to try it out on the water!!! man, boats are a money suck haha
