Replaced the Tohatsu's zincs today. Ordered new ones online. What blew me away was how far gone the under cav-plate zinc was. I thought the replacement part looked huge. The one that was in there only barely fit the opening. What other things should I look out for in a motor resulting from excessively worn zincs? Long flushes with SaltAway? It is a M15B2. Happy 4Th!

If your zinc is wearing then everything is good. That is what they are supposed to do.

Salt away flush is never a bad idea

When the zinc anodes are NOT eroding and sacrificing themselves, then start worrying.

For those who have zincs on their engines and the zincs are coated in a hard white coating....replace them.
If you want to clean them the best way is to do it with a sharp scraper. Do not sand or wire brush them as the zinc will be compromised with steel particles from the brushes. This renders the zinc useless. Zincs are pretty cheap anyway.
