I'm working on my first Mod and have spent countless hours on the research. I'm adding casting decks to my 1976 Lowe 1448 and looking for opinions and experience with sealing the marine grade plywood I selected. I plan to cut, pre-drill holes and seal the wood with a spar varnish and then cover with outdoor carpet. I plan on keeping the boat for many years so I'm trying to build with good materials. I live in the midwest and will be fishing rivers and lakes, no salt water. I am undecided on linseed or tung oil based varnish. Does anyone have any experiences on which is best?

I would use the spar on everything......multiple coats too. If you use the oil you will have to re-coat every year to keep the wood sealed. The spar will last for years if you apply it correctly.
