Will a 90/65 4 stroke be too heavy?

I have a 1756 dlx G3 center console, I am wanting to upgrade from my Mercury 45 jet and all I can seem to find a 4 strokes. Would a 90/65 Yamaha or Mercury be too heavy? I have also considered going to a 2 stroke 115/80 as I have found a few of those in 2 stroke. I want to plane out with a load but have power/speed when needed. The 2000 merc 45 jet isn't cutting it.

I think that the Mercury 4 stroke 115/80 is same weight and dimensions as the 90/65, different internally. I could be wrong on that but think I'm right. The 115/80 and 90/65 are long shafts so your transom might not be right but the short answer you were looking for, no it's not to much weight. I have Mercury 60/40 and love it, much more affordable than all the other brands if u are buying new.

If your buying new and they same weight and dimensions the 115/80 would be my choice, they are more expensive than the 90/65 though

You think the transom on the G3 1756 can handle the weight? I'm just curious as I have noticed some of the weights being close to the same. Guys here in my area say a 4stroke 90/65 is too heavy? I am asking the pros on here. Thanks for your input. I'll keep my eyes open for a 90/65 first then if I can get a deal on a 2 stroke 115/80 I'll but it.

I looked on the Mercury website and the 90/65 and the 115/80 both weigh 378 pounds. Both have 20" shafts. Are those too long for my 20" transom?

For a 20" jet you'll need a 27" transom.
