I just bought a 1997 yamaha 4 stroke 15hp. I think I got a great deal, but.... when I went to check it out it wouldn't start. Because it wouldn't start I offered 1/2 price. and got it.

Here's my plan....
Change oil
change plugs
fresh gas

Anything else I need to key in on?

It's not going to start unless you remove the carb, disassemble it, soak it in carb cleaner for 24hrs (paint thinner works), douche it with spray carb cleaner and then blow it out with compressed air.
4-strokes carbs gum up easy. I can let my 2-strokes sit for 2 yrs and they will fire up. Both 4-strokes i've had wouldn't fire after sitting for 4-6 months.
The carb cleaning is pretty simple job so don't be afraid to tackle it.

WB,

First of all, cool name.
Second, that's probably good advice. I bet it's all gummed up, it's been sitting for quite a while. The tank had some nasty old gas in it.
