I'm betting most already know this. But just in case.

Just suppose your keys have gone for a walk.

And, you didn't keep a spare in a separate location.

And you didn't write down or take a pic of that little number on the keys.

If you are among the small group of folk in America who might put themselves in this predicament, this might be helpful. The key code is stamped on the side of the combination (ignition) switch. That means instead of buying a whole new ignition switch/keys for $90, you can just get a replacement key for $5.

Works for Honda brand. As far as I know might work for others too.
 
Thank you for sharing. I didn't know that I could open the car with this trick. Last week I lost my key in the airport, and the wait time for replacement was too long, so I decided to approach the Arlington Locksmith service, to open my car and change locks instead of approaching the official car dealer. It saved me a lot of time, and these guys from the Arlington Locksmith service know their work. The job was done on the same day I approached them.
