Does anyone have experience with Tohatsu motors as far as dependability and ease of service? I am looking at a 8 hp 2 stroke I believe that it is 8 years old. Thanks

I have a new 2009 9.8hp EL. Great motor, except the 10 hour burn in period which seems like alot..

I noticed if mine hasnt been started in a few weeks, it takes a couple minutes to warm up and idle without reving..

I'm happy with mine..

Nissan/Tohatsu motors have a great reputation for dependability.
I have run the hell out of an 18hp Nissan 2 stroke for the last 10 years. Have only made one minor repair (carb cover gasket) and very little maintenance. Changed the lower unit oil a couple of times & plugs a couple of times. Other than some water-in-the gas problems that are no fault of the motor, it has run great.
