I have a 2003 25hp Mercury that i can't shift into reverse. The shiter is built into the trottle when you didconnect the linkage fromt the trottle you can turn the trottle to the reverse position the problem is with the shaft that goes down to the foot. It needs to go down to ingage into reverse but its like its in some type of bind any help would be great

I might suggest you go online and using the exact model of your motor, try and find a "cutaway" view to determine if the linkage is in place as it should be...the slightest bend in it will cause all kinds of trouble.

Nobody asked if motor worked before & than one day it wouldn't.Did you have lower off?Make sure it isn't just out of adjustment.
