I have attached three pictures of the boat I got done modifying last summer.

I am looking to add some rod holders to the boat WITHOUT making any boxes or storage compartments.

I have looked at rod savers and rod holders online but dont care for the size of them. I want something a lot smaller that holds the rods to the side walls of the boat. I do not want the rods lying on the deck/floor. Id prefer them tight to the side walls. I don't have a lot of room but I do have a few inches on each side of the boat. So I can strap two rods on each side.

but im mentally thinking of like a 2" ring that locks shut over the rod handle. how its strapped to the wall is not clear. it has some type of a quick release so I can lock/unlock it as needed. then a smaller on on the opposite end for the support of the rod tips, again not sure how i would strap them.

I would like all the genius DIY'ers to throw some ideas at me. I am at a loss. Maybe what I want does not exist.

the floor area is 3ft x 3ft with no room to go into the front or back storage areas.

How about something like this - mounts to the side of the gunnels

images

Berkeley Twist Lock rod holders. The handle slides into a foam lined hole and the rod slips into a slotted foam holder which has a twist lock device to keep it from coming out. I've used these under my fiberglass tonneau cover on my truck, and have several mounted to the wall to store rods in. They work great. Here's a link to show you what I'm talking about. You can buy them at several different sports stores maybe even wally world.

funny, i just saw the thread that someone else started discussing the same ideas.......................

those berkley mounts are only 6" or so in length. that is better than the 9-12" that i have seen.

thanks for the feedback

I have something similer to this set up, I will say the "foam" they use does not stand up to much use. :-(

Nice looking boat you have. Before you get the cart before the horse, take a look at these

two on each side looks to be your best bet, if you are going horizontal. otherwise , you will have to have a vertical rod rack and then you can store more. I had the same problem only being able to mount 4 rods total on the side of my 1440.

I wish so bad I could post pics but I like the rubber strap and hook line you buy as bass pro for 5 bucks. Screw the band and the hook down and they will NOT go anywhere. I do like 85 in my crew cab 4x4 chevy with my 1650 alumacraft on the back and my rods ride all the way. Its just a black stretchy band with a hook on it and it comes with a half loop you screw to your deck.

I know there a lot manufactured holder on here but they all had to start with an idea, go luck.

You could go with these rubber holders and place them where they suit you best, including setting them up alternating forward and backward to accommodate more rods. For security you could add a rubber strap or bungee to go across them.

i just got some black milk crates from walmart and cut some 1 1/4 black pvc pipe and hold the rods straight up. Six 7' rods to a crate and I needed somewhere to put stuff anyway. I fish by myself but I haul 10 rods or so and it hurts to break one. Downside is I have to lay them in the truck bed to trailer. (You can see plenty of them on kayak sites)

Interesting. Been rounding up replacements for rubber stern lite storage clips, found a match to originals but looking to add clips for a paddle and a boat pole/grapple against wall also. Those are soft enough to avoid damage bumping them.Should be quiet as well on a choppy plane. Thanks for sharing guys.
