what do you guys down south use on the transom ?

Depends a lot on what size boat you have and the wind. 1000 acre lake is approximately 1.5 square miles which is not really a large lake. I have a 12' v-hull with a Minn Kota Endura 30 and a Wal-Mart Everstart Maxx Group 29 Deep Cycle battery and routinely cover 6 miles on medium speed with...

    Converting Onboard Charger

Most all battery charger owner's manuals state to "mount the charger as far away from battery as possible or practical"...etc... This is primarily for two reasons...1) off-gassing from the batteries while charging which can corrode the charger and 2) the possibility of fire or explosion from...

    Converting Onboard Charger

I never caught how many battery banks you have?...I assume 2 since you mentioned 4 connectors. That's definitely one way to go but those chargers are small, and can be easily mounted out of the way on the boat. Then you would only have to plug and unplug the charger into 110V. Looks like you...

    NC sound

I live and fish on Brown/Broad Creeks off of the Neuse River. Good trout and red fishing. Some of the best large drum fishing on the planet is 5 miles by water from me. Rod Oriental, NC

    Rusto Alkyd Enamel

Alkyd based enamel is basically farm implement paint. It is very hard, very durable, and in the high gloss variety it is very glossy with a deep shine. It's great paint. I've been through many, many gallons of alkyd based enamel in John Deere green. Check out the "Tractor & Implement Paint"...

How would you patch these holes?

PS: Be sure to use the "Original" JB Weld...not the quickset 30 minute stuff...it's mickey mouse. The "Original" JB Weld will be stronger and stiffer than the aluminum that was drilled out. Rod Oriental, NC

How would you patch these holes?

The JB Weld idea is right on. You could even mix the JB Weld with a high or low density filler, microballoons, or even talcum powder to make it easier to sand flush. A little paint and your done...kind'a like Servpro (or my second marriage)..."Like It Never Really Happened"... Rod Oriental, NC

Can anyone help me ID this boat?

What state are you in? I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you might be in for a big headache...been there...done that... Boat manufacturer's are very reluctant (and refuse) to give out MSO's for boats that are not newly delivered. At a bare minimum you will need to get a NOTARIZED Bill...

    New Tinman

Very nice boat for the money...you did good...I'm just not a fan of bottom-painting aluminum boats... Is that trailer the boat is on now galvanized or painted?...If it's galvanized, the price for the trailer is good. That's a perfectly sized rig you have there... Rod Oriental, NC

    Pods on a tiller

There's just not that much of a gain with a 50 hp tiller to justify the cost of pods and a jackplate (approx. $750 to $1000 minimum). Rod Oriental, NC

    Piano Hing Source

How thick is the decking?...are you using typical 1/8" marine carpeting?... ...At first glance, looks like mounting the hinges on the cockpit side (instead of the gunnel side) might solve your problem? Rod Oriental, NC

    Pods on a tiller

Pods are generally used to offset the added weight of the newer 4-stroke engines. If you're looking for a hole shot, you might wann'a check into trim tabs...a much cheaper alternative...depending on the situation... Rod Oriental, NC

    Piano Hing Source

Got a pic of the prospective installation?...there may be an easier alternative than trying to source a piano hinge with the correct offset etc... Rod Oriental, NC

    Seat base question

Not familiar with that particular model boat but in this case a boat is a boat. You'll need access to the underside of the deck in order to inspect for any bracing and flotation as well as installing some form of backing plate and under deck fasteners. Installing an access hatch or inspection...
