tomme boy » 27 Feb 2014, 16:41[/url]"]The ones I am talking about was the early 80's models that were pin drive. All white with a orange stripe and lettering. Might have been the commercial motors. They were the bigger c.i. head.

The newer thru hub models were detuned because of emissions. They are pitiful for a 25.

I think I know the ones you mean. They had the old style lower unit. The props were exactly the same...looking. The new, bigger power-head was used in 1977 with the old 'pin-drive' propshaft, only one year. Starting in 1978 they used a splined propshaft. The old style props were used but they had a splined hub pressed into them.

There is nothing pitiful about these engines...if they're in good shape. You may have experienced a 'well worn' old thing with a million hours on it. Maybe you had one once and couldn't get it going, I don't know. In any case, you have been deprived of the pleasure of running a healthy OMC 25hp outboard. Your opinion would be different.

They were eliminated from production probably for emission related reasons in 2005. They were certainly never de-tuned.

Maybe I can't put you in the driver's seat, but, here's a couple of videos: (If prompted, use guest password: twist'er)

tomme boy in my albeit humble opinion, everything that Pappy has given advice to has been spot on accurate. Not to bad for someone who lives approx. 1800 miles from me and has NEVER seen one of my outboards in person! just sayin' is all  But hey if it works for you that's all that matters, cool rig BTW
