Johnny I was just thinking extra strength? I'm not so much worried about watertight. I may just use this valspar reserve exterior I have and put 3 coats on and call it a day.

I guess it depends on how much stress the bow deck
will be exposed to - - - personally, if it were mine,
I would put stainless sheet metal screws 4" apart on the edges
and a piece of 1-1/2x1-1/2" angle underneath the outside edge
and that will tie it all together as one solid unit.
But, since I have a lot of sheet metal around, I would use .100"
aluminum sheet pop riveted to the gunwales and the angle under the edge.
