If your're ever in NE Texas, check out Cooper Lake (new name Chapman Lake but most people still call it Cooper Lake) north of Sulphur Springs, TX. It is one of the most under used lakes in Texas. The state park has first class ramps, parking, restrooms , camping and picnic areas. A great place to take the family and fish too. Lake Fork is close by so that Cooper does not get that much traffic but it is a great lake.

Tuesday we had a foul wind out of the East but a great day of fishing. We caught 50 or 60 white bass with most of them being 12" or bigger by fishing the humps and roads. Having a Map Chip for your GPS really pays of on this lake. We also caught four whitebass/stripper hybrids that hit hard and fought hard. When a hybrid his your lure, there is no doubt what you have on your line. When they get close to the boat, they go crazy. We saw brief top water schooling but nothing substained. The top water schooling has not be as good this year as it is most years. We went for the hybrids but enjoyed the white bass. A lot of them fought like a much bigger fish.

Texas is not stocking the lake this year so we kept 10 white bass for dinner and released the hybrids and most of the sandies, I think that there only 3 lakes in Texas where strippers can spawn. I believe they require water with a salt content. So hybrids occur only by stocking farmed fish.
