Just use a step drill bit. Much better hole than a Hole Saw.

+1!!! Does anyone else agree that step drills/unibits are one of the best tools ever made?

Also, when you go to drill, hole saw, or cut gel-coated fiberglass, it always helps to put some masking tape around the area of the cut. It not only prevents the tool from marring the gel coat, but also prevents the gel coat from splintering.

Thanks again. I'm fixin' to order the bit at https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000RP82F8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A2ZSTDEXO9VTZF . Should do the job on that paper thin Tracker!

When using a hole saw, spade bit, or step bit on fiberglass, the tape is good, but also run the drill in reverse to score the glass. Keeps it from spider cracking and chipping.

Bugpac, the pump I have in stock is a 1" but that's a hell of a big hole, at least 1.25 so I bought a 3/4" thru-hull which requires 1" hole and I'll throw $17 bucks at a basic Rule 3/4" 360GPH pump. Won't keep me afloat in a real emergency but then nothing would!
