The first battery i owned was giving me over-heating problems. So i figured it was a defective battery, and went and got another one. Then, about a week after owning the new battery, i was trolling on speed 3 on my trolling motor, and it literally blew up. It sounded like a rifle shot. The motor is a Bass Pro Shops Prowler 50 pound thrust. I am including some pics of the battery. Any advice on why this happened?

Thanks.

how do you have the trolling motor hooked up? just straight to the battery? no fuses or even a relay?
I would start by checking the power rating of the battery and the trolling motor.
What guage wire are you using?
then I i would look into hooking up(if you don't have it already) a fused, switch set up. power going to switch and then
fuse and then to the tm. hope this helps.

It happened because the wire size is too small for your motor, so the wires got WAY to hot and obviously you must not have a fuse/circuit breaker wired in. To fix it up your wire size to the manufacturer's specs and wire in a 50 amp resettable breaker, and get a new battery.
