I am looking for any suggestions, whether custom built or pre-fab, for rod holders for my Alumacraft V16. Looking to store rods horizontally, on the sides of the boat. I only have just under 5" of space, so I'm pretty size restricted. Even if it only holds 4 rods per side (interlocked), I would be fine with that. Was thinking of making some with a flat stock piece of aluminum, and lacing velcro strap through it, to hold them just in front of the reel, and then another piece about mid way for support.

Trying to avoid drilling any holes in the side or gunnel of the boat. Let me know what you've seen that works!

Like you say, 5" is pretty tight. I'm guessing that you would be able to fabricate something to meet your needs better than anything you will find off the shelf. I like the idea of using the velcro to secure the rods. I may not be fully understanding your design, but would worry that the aluminum might be hard on the rod finish. Maybe some kind of padding or consider using something like King Starboard or similar instead of aluminum.

I have these great looking rod racks in my boat that basically fell apart. I also plan on fabricating some replacements. It has been on my drawing board for a while now.

I had these in my last boat and like them, they are a good bit longer than 5", however they are flexible, so if a contour is what's obstructing the mount they may still work.
