Hi guys, This will be my first post here. I've been lurking the site for the past few weeks and liked what I saw so I decided to join. Some of you guys on here have some awesome boats and what brought me here is watching some of the videos on youtube for ideas for my new project.
I'm out of central FL and spend most of my time hunting and fishing. I love killing ducks and thats mostly what my boat will be used for.
I just purchased a 1985 Gruman 10 ft jon boat for $100. I already had a 8HP suzuki that has about 60 hours on it.
My plans are to turn this little boat into a duck killin rig for one or two people. Last year I spooked alot of birds away with a 14' and 15' boat so I decided to get as low a profile as possible without sacrificing safety too much. I had a bad incident last season where i flipped a layout boat in 15 degree weather, so I'm done with anything smaller then a jon boat.
So my plans are to first sand prime and paint everything. I've made some stencils before, and they turned out pretty well. I'm probably gonnna go that route when it's time.
I'm also thinking of bed linering the bottom, building a small bow(spelling?) for the front, adding a trolling motor, lights, and last but not least a folding duck blind. I'll also be building or buying a small trailer because the boat didn't come with one. I have an axle and leaf springs and tounge already just need to buy the steal or a cheap trailer whatever is cheaper. I also plan on putting pods of some sort on the back and adding storage underneth to two existing seats...
I'll probably be slow to start but I have plenty of time before early teal season in september. Just started a new job so I'll have some extra cash to spend after a couple weeks.
So here's the boat now I'll get some more pics of her once she's on land and I have time to work on it. Let me know what you guys think or feel free to toss any ideas out there. I'm open to all suggestions...
