It's at the law if he didn't. Your supposed to save it and report any catches. Not saying I would go through hoops of fire, but it needs to be killed for sure. I hear they are good eating, kind of like northern.
 
I saw the one the guy filleted on the show... looks like good eating.

I keeps 20 penny nails in my boat in case I catch odd looking or diseased fish... guess these will be getting one right between the eyes too if I were to catch one. I don't kill them then put them back in the water. Just don't want them flopping around in the back of the boat out of water. I've only done this to a few fish who were eaten up with some kind of skin disease
