How to adjust the timing on a Mercury tiller motor

Hey everyone, I have a Mercury 200 (20HP) long shaft tiller motor, I recently rebuilt the carb, fuel pump, water pump, new points, recoil, plugs, etc...I am having problems with getting a spark, the condenser was tested and is good, I was told I should adjust the timing on the motor and I have no idea how to do that or where to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :shock:

You probably have other problems.Adjusting the timing will not magicaly give you spark.
Did motor run before?

I would double check point gap and where they need to be before adjusting.

Most likely his motor doesn't have points.Most 200's that I have worked on are CDI.

It should have spark regardless of the timing. If it doesn't, you have other problems. Timing is just that, spark at the right TIME.
