Well we just got back from our Annual New Year's trip to Dale Hollow. Below is our full report and some pics. I'll add more pics later as I need to get some of them from one of the other boats. I've added some pics to the post... to see all pics of the trip click on the hyperlink at the bottom of the page.

Day 1 (01.01.09)

Launched: 7:30am
Air temp: 18 Degrees
Water Temp: 43-45 Degrees
Weather: Sunny and Windy
Location: Upper end of the lake.

We arrived at Eagle Cove Resort around 7:30am Thursday morning and was met with Clear Skies and lots of wind... :( It was too early to check in so we launched the boats and headed out in search of the big Smallmouth.

Team G3 #1 (Brian & David) hooked up on 7 fish and was able to land 6 of them. Of those we landed, our biggest for the day was 21.5" long and weighed 5lbs.

Team G3 #2 (Tony & Michael)hooked up on 5 fish and was able to land 4 of them. Of those they landed, their biggest for the day was 18" long and weighed 3.5lbs.

Team Skeeter (Dad & Bennie) hooked up 13 fish and were able to land 11 of them. Their largest was 21" long and 4.5lbs. They had the better day by far with several fish in the 20+" range.

All in all this was the best of the 3 days which at the time did not seem like it. The bite was slow after 10 a.m. and picked back up slightly after about 3 p.m. We ended the day with 25 hook-ups between us and 21 nice fish between the 3 boats. Of the 21, there were 0-LM, 1-Spots & 20-SM on Day 1. All fish were caught on the FNF between 8-13' deep on main lake points. Darker colors seem to produce more strikes.

Day 2 (01.02.09)

Launched: 7:30am
Air temp: 38 Degrees
Water Temp: 43-45 Degrees
Weather: Partly to Mostly Cloudy & Windy
Location: Upper end of the lake.

We were up at six to eat breakfast and then we headed out around 7:30. The early morning started out cloudy and the wind was calm for about the first 2 hours, but then the end of the low pressure passed through. The clouds faded away, the sun popped out and the winds blew 10-15 the rest of the day. It was almost impossible to find a place out of the wind.

Team G3 #1 (Brian & David) hooked up on 7 fish and was able to land 6 of them. Of those we landed, our biggest for the day was 18.5" long and weighed 3.5lbs.

Team G3 #2 (Tony & Michael)hooked up on 3 fish and was able to land 2 of them. Of those they landed, their biggest for the day was 17" long and weighed 3lbs.

Team Skeeter (Dad & Bennie) hooked up 6 fish and were able to land 3 of them. Their largest was 20" long and 4lbs.

The late day high pressure made this a really tough day. The bite died after 12. We fought the white caps for another 3 hours before calling it day and coming in to eat and watch football. We ended the day with 13 hook-ups between us and 11 nice fish between the 3 boats. Of the 11, there were 1-BG, 0-LM, 0-Spots & 10-SM on Day 2. All fish were caught on the FNF between 8-13' deep on main lake points and bluffs. Once again darker colors seem to produce more strikes.

Day 3 (01.03.09)

Launched: 7:30am
Air temp: 40 Degrees
Water Temp: 43-45 Degrees
Weather: Cloudy with slight breeze
Location: Upper end of the lake.

We were up again at six to eat breakfast. We loaded up the vehicles with all of our stuff and then we headed out around 7:30. The early morning started out cloudy with a slight breeze for about the first hour as another low pressure was pushing into the area. Around 9 the wind cranked back up and was blowing 5-10MPH. The clouds stayed in place but oddly enough the fishing did not pick up. We fished until 12:30 and decided to head home as it was extremely slow once again. As we were leaving the launch the rain started.

Team G3 #1 (Brian & David) hooked up on 2 fish and was able to land 1 of them. Of those we landed, our biggest for the day was 20" long and weighed 4.5lbs.

Team G3 #2 (Tony & Michael)hooked up on 4 fish and was able to land 3 of them. Of those they landed, their biggest for the day was 18" long and weighed 3.5lbs.

Team Skeeter (Dad & Bennie) hooked up 4 fish and were able to land 3 of them. Their largest was 16" long.

We thought the low pressure moving in would help but it did not... probably due to the fact that 3 different fronts had pushed through the area in 3 days. We ended the day with 10 hook-ups between us and 7 fish between the 3 boats. Of the 7, there were 0-LM, 0-Spots & 7-SM on Day 3. All fish were caught on the FNF between 8-13' deep on main lake points and bluffs. Once again darker colors seem to produce more strikes.

While this wasn't as good as the last year's trip, it was still good to get back down to the Hollow. We had a great time and enjoyed lots fishing, food & fellowship! Thank the good Lord for a safe trip! Hope to go back sometime in February. If not, cant wait to get back down next year! Below is the link to see all the pics.

Real sharp looking pictures.
Nobody skunked on any day, great fishing.

Nice report and pictures, those are some really clean looking fish. Looks like your pop knows where the lunkers lurk.

Thats an awesome assortment of descent fish, especially for what looks like a very cold day. Having a boat def. is an advantage this time of year. Way to go.
