red, black and orange wires?

I picked up a male and female plug and socket for my trolling motor that hasnt arrived yet and saw there is an orange wire on there? I thought I had read enough to know what I was doing when it got here and now I got orange mystery wires. Can anyone shed some light?

Sounds like it would be for a 12/24 system. What voltage will you be using?

You could just do away with the orange wire if you wanted and only use the red and black. Or use all three and have 12 volt power also available there incasse you ever down grade your trolling motor.

so then the orange wire isnt used for anything in a straight 24 volt system?
