Was getting ready to place my order for my navigation and interior lights today, but I'm still not sure what color I want for my interior lights. I'm getting these to place under the lip at the top of my gunwales.

I was initially set on blue, then someone brought to my attention that red is the best for not killing night vision. Will be using these for night fishing as well as running up river early in the morning to duck hunt and while setting out decoys. Looking for a color that will light up the inside of the boat well without destroying my night vision. What color would YOU get??

And FWIW I saw these on DearJon's build thread and thought they looked awesome. Would also eliminate the risk of breaking a standard bow mounted nav light while getting in and out of the boat. I'm stealing this idea.

Here it is on DearJon's boat.

I put green in my boat. I have 5 strips that have 24 led's per strip and they really light up the boat. Cant comment on night vision because I havnt fished in the dark with em yet but I went green because its not suppose to attract bugs.

I am going to go red to match my boat (black and red)

red is the longest spectrum of light so it's less visible from a distance compared to the others. many animals can't even see it(ducks can)
blue is one of the shortest wavelengths and easy to see from a distance.
green is the most reflective and distantly visible color..

::edited for correction.

Just my 2 cents, but I have literally never seen LED Strip Lights brighter than these.

red has the shortest (or longest? i forget...) wavelength, & blue is the opposite. meaning, red has the least impact on night vision, while blue has hurts night vision the most. green is in the middle.

US navy ships used to have blue lights for exterior corridor lighting, they now have red. this is the same reason BMWs have red interior gauge lighting

personally, i would install both red & white if I did this, that way you can save night vision or see to work. i don't have any on my boat, i just use a head lamp or a light that clips on my hat's bill

red light will be plenty to setup decoys, but having white would be nice to have if you're trying to undo a tangle. to me, nothing beats a nice pure white light when trying to work on something. one of my cap lights has white & green, i use white to toss out decoys & green to walk to the blind

Thanks for the responses. Got my order in this morning. Went with red. Hopefully they'll be bright enough to provide some decent working light within the boat. I'll be sure to update once they get installed.
