As above said, best to consult the manual. My Honda 2 hp 4 stroke manual says one can store it either vertically or horizontally. The engine comes with molded foot pads on one side so one stores horizontally on that side only. Manual says if for any length of time, let engine stay vertical for a time to drain any water, and then to drain the fuel. Otherwise, no issues.
